note the fire and rescue name on the ladder, a little incongruous on an old machine. Cambridgeshire was the first brigade to use that name in 1974 under CFO John Maxwell who realised the role was expanding with car accidents etc. Now virtually all English brigade use fire and rescue.

I believe this appliance was sold to Portugal and was last seen there derelict

Hi Rick, long shot, but any idea where in Portugal? I am often out there and could try and look it up. They have quite a pro-active attitude towards preservation. Which reminds me I must upload some pictures I have from the incredible Lisbon Fire Brigade museum.

I am almost sure it went to Faro and ended up with a volunteer fire brigade there. I have some pictures of it standing in what looks like a side street with a broken headlamp. This was about 5 years ago.

I am sure that there must be some Portuguese visitors to this site who will know the full details.

Barry.

Barry, I am trying to find the picture of LCE 212 in the side street in Portugal as I thought you posted it on this site. Could you let me know what photo number it is so I can look again at the image. May be heading out towards Algarve soon and wanted to see if I can track it down.

John, I am afraid that I never posted my picture of LCE212 in Portugal on Fire Engine Photos. When this thread appeared I searched through all my pictures but just could not turn it up. Sorry.

Hi Barry, thanks for checking. Strange thing is I am sure I have seen a picture of it somewhere, now it is going to drive me crazy trying to find it!

John D, I too remember seeing a photo of LCE 212 in Portugal, it had chevrons on the bumper which has stuck in my mind for some reason. Unfortunately, my F-series sightings recording system has let me down and I can only find pictures of it in this country.
Like you, I will be trying to find it!

picture 23483 may be of interest. Can't remember exactly when it was taken but certainly late 70's.
