Dennis's at playIt is a warm Autumn afternoon in early October and 3 Dennis's are at play at the Tees Cottage pumping station in Darlington, Co. Durham. UAU999 is an ex-Nottingham FB F12 with a rear mounted pump. Behind you can see URB87 a Derbyshire Dennis F8 and to the right is the 1930 Low Load Dennis from Burton on Trent.
After this event it was time to drain the pump and engine down on the Burton Dennis so that the engine could be filled with antifreeze in preparation for the winter. When pumping a small proportion of the pump water is fed off into the engine to keep it cool. The displaced hot engine water is then lost through the radiator overflow. On both the F8 and the F12 technology has advanced (25 years later) by the use of intercoolers so that the pump and engine water circuits are separate.
