PEST at Bohemia Road.

This was taken around 1980. It was new to the then Hastings Borough in 1968 and remained on the run at Hastings until 1985 when it was replaced by a 6 wheeled Jeep. In the borough days it ran as a Pump Emergancy Salvage Tender (PEST) and did answer fire calls as a pump on its own sometime as it did have a small water tank and pump.It was built by HCB Angus and is almost the sme as Eastbournes EST of the same year.

Shaun, do you know any history of KCD999F? It was a Bedford TK based at Wadhurst (well that's were I think it ended it's service)It had a one piece windscreen, and had a red cab / crew cab, with one piece opening crew doors rather than the folding type. I think due to it's locker arrangement that It may of once been an escape carrying appliance. From memory it carried it's portable pump uncovered at the rear, and only had two lockers per side (one full length and only half length above the wheel arch) My last memory of this was helping to push (bump start)it, as it was not too reliable!! Shortly after this incident it was removed from Wadhurst and replaced by JPM336D) I've not seen anything quite like it since, so would be interested to hear if anyone knows of it, or similar appliances.

Thanks, Mike.

Hi Mike, the Bedford I think you describe was not at first an ESFB pump but an old Brighton borough machine. The body builder was Dennis/miles and was a one off and was stationed at first in Roedean coming to Wadhurst some time in the 70's.I love the pics of the Dennis and the Bedford would I be able to have copies? as the bedford spent some time at Rye I hope the other information helps.

Hi Shaun, I think you maybe right about KCD999F having a Dennis built body, from what I remember it was quite a good looking machine. No problems about the pictures, but these will need to be scanned copies, as I no longer have the negatives. Let me know where you would like them emailed too. Mike.
