Hi Morgan,is the Bedford still a runner and road worthy or was it used in a programe about the 1987 storm and had a tree dropped onto it?

Perfect all-red TK. This HCB bodied TK was probably the classic British water tender of the sixties and seventies. Neat, purposeful and greatly liked by most of the lads who used them.

I sold D series Fords against them, and although we supplied Ds to around a dozen British brigades, the TK was always a tough contender - at least until we introduced the D1317 with the Perkins V8 engine, just as many brigades were switching to diesel...

Just a brief update. As a result of a question, I looked into the number of brigades who bought D series in the UK and have come up with twenty six so far. Some were one-off sales but many were multiple batches. Although most were water tenders, there were examples of most other types too.

Numerous others were sold overseas too, with the largest numbers going to New Zealand, Denmark, Ireland, the Netherlands, Portugal, Greece and Turkey, where they were assembled under license.

I lost track of their sales when I left Ford Truck Division in 1971, so my records are incomplete as far as to actual numbers of units. In addition, quite a few were built on locally modified standard truck chassis instead of the SVO build, especially in Turkey and New Zealand.
