Fire Engines Photos

Thanks Shaun - great picture, did not realise it only had one blue flashing light when new, don't know if it kept this into later life after it transfered to West Sussex. Thanks, Jon.

So was WPM 557J a West Sussex Machine? Burgess Hill isn't in East Sussex.

Burgess Hill was in East Sussex until 1974.E SFB lost 6 stations, East Grinstead, Turners Hill, Haywards Heath, Burgess Hill, Hurst Pier point and Keymer. ESFB did then gain 5 stations from Brighton 2, Eastbourne 1 and Hastings 2.

WPM557J was delivered new to East Sussex Fire Brigade on 20th October,1970.The appliance was stationed at Burgess Hill at the time of Government County Boundary changes in 1974,and the appliance transferred with station into the West Sussex Fire Brigade. It was actually the only Dennis'D'Series appliance from East Sussex to be transferred from the brigade. All other appliances that moved with stations being older ex-ESFB Bedfords.

Shaun / Pete, thanks for that - I understand now. Was only 9 in 1974 so can't remember the boundary changes!

Mike I was only 1 when the boundary changed in 1974! It helps to have a father who served in East sussex from 1964 to 2001. I have a photo of this pump taken from the front and also sister pump when at Battle. Will post them soon.
