Thanks for this Chris, one of the best machines I ever worked with, a real drivers machine as well.

I think this is a rapier not a sabre as there is only 1 step up to the cab were as sabres have 2. Its a nice bit of kit in Warwickshire they are taken there 58reg CARP round the area making sure it fits down the streets which it will because there going round in the middle of the day when everyones at work or out. Try around 7pm then see what happens.

Some Sabres had two mate, the very early ones. Laughed about the Carp, it will look nice wedged in a narrow street with the crew trapped inside!

Having just checked my fleetbook, I've found that this is indeed a Dennis Rapier, and not a Sabre as I first thought.A typing error Gents Sorry!!

tell me about it they have brought this CARP so that means the HP will go I think leaving 1 PRL and this CARP. Then they say there going to shut a number of retained stations.

I've always relied on the little wheels and wheel arches to tell me it's a Rapier. Sabres' wheels are much bigger.

This is actually Bishop Aucklands (station N in old money) second machine crewed by the RDS, hence callsign N02. It IS a Rapier, phased out by Sabres due to gross weight being too low for all the kit carried now.

This is indeed a Dennis Rapier. It is on the run at Bishop Auckland and is manned by the Retained Crew there. Call Sign D12P2 ( Used to be November Zero 2 )
