A 1996 Steyr 19S32 watertanker with a Rosenbauer bodywork. This unit is in service with the Fire brigade Eupen Belgium. The tank contains 8000 litres of water.
Many fire brigades in Belgium were supplied with these 8000LTR tanks, on Steyr or Renault chassis. The pump is 2000 L/M at 10 ATM (445 IGPM at 150 PSI). They are not designed for rural or forest firefighting, but intended for rural interface structural incidenr water supply support, as most Belgian pumpers only carry 1,500 to 2,000 LTRs. As such, they have a one or two person crew, a small supply of hose, sufficient to feed a standard pumper on the fireground, and not much else. And, yes, the European maximum weight laws (18 tonnes on 2 axles) means that a payload of 8000 LTR (2100 USG or 1775 IG), is just about the most that can be carried on a standard truck chassis. They were originally part of the Civil Defence, and are being phased out and replaced by more modern chassis, including Volvo and MAN.
