FDNY Seagrave Pumper- Engine Co54.This was a spare FDNY Seagrave 1000/500 pumper allocated in 2001 to Engine Co 54 that shares its quarters in a 1974 Firehouse with Ladder Co 4,and Battalion 9 at 782 8th Street in the Borough of Manhattan. The photo was taken in May,2002 whilst this apparatus was in service as Eng54 and was to remain at these quarters until 2003.
In 2003,Engine Co 54 recieved a some what unusual new piece of equipment,it was one of 2,2003 Ferrara Inferno 1000gpm/500-gallon tank High-Pressure pumpers. The other 2003 Ferrara going to Engine Co 258 in the Borough of Queens.Another Ferrara Inferno ordered in 2003 arrived in 2004 and went to Engine Co 26 also in Manhattan.
Due to the great lose of apparatus following 911,various types of apparatus were purchased by the FDNY that was made available from various manufacturers during the period,ie-Spartan/Luverne,American LaFrance,Ferrara and of course Seagrave which the FDNY now use as a standard pumper and have done for many years.
