What a shame that they are left like this, I hope someone has salvaged them!

one of these TL's was a former Essex appliance I saw them round about the same time when Mark was at college in Norfolk - he'd seen them from the train !

Its a real shame to see 2 classics like these sitting just rusting away!.Is that really the old London AEC/Merryweather(241FLM)?.Rick,Essex had 2 of these, one at Colchester(749SWC)and the other was based at Chelmford(750SWC)both from 1963.The one from Colchester went OOS in 1982,and the one from Chelmsford went OOS in 1984.What we see here maybe?is the one from Colchester-reason being that the Merryweather ladder from the other(750SWC-Chelmsford)one was re-chassied on to a later appliance of the Essex County Fire Brigade, that being a Shelvoke Drewry registered A344MVX.

You are right Pete, the second machine is 749 SWC which served at Colchester.
These TLs had been in the same spot for many years, possibly since coming out of service. When I spoke to the owner, he said he was going to cut them up so I put an article about them in the Fire Service Preservation Group newsletter to make others aware of their existence. A few years later when passing nearby I thought they had gone but only confirmed this in 2007 when I walked to the site. Unless somebody knows different, I assume they were scrapped.

I'm a bit heart-broken seeing these photos. 241 FLM was my TL at Brixton. Lots of shouts and numerous rescues. I loved this old girl!! I hope someone writes to me saying that she survived, and where she is now??! Terrible!!!
