Hi Yelp! The yellow railing, is that something that the insurance companys demand?By looking on pics from Australia, they have the stairs to the podium stowed in the side of the vehicle, together with railings! That´s a bit odd to me.

Hi Anders. Health & Safety regulations in the UK are so ridiculous these days everybody is treated like a child, and that includes the brave men and women of our fire services too. For instance, the ladders on the roof of a standard pumper used to be accessed by climbing a ladder fixed to the rear of the vehicle. But they must have been so treacherous because today ladders have to be removed from the roof using an extendible sliding gantry while both feet are planted firmly on the ground. So yes, Anders, the yellow rails are merely safety rails. I would love to know how many firefighters fell off an aerial appliance before such "safety" measures were installed. I bet it wasn't many, if any!
