One of the Leyland Classics. Its from 1938 and is a Leyland FT4A with limousine type body.It was new to Poole Borough Fire Brigade in 1938 and cost £1758.Following service with the NFS,it passed to Dorset Fire Brigade in 1948 remaining at Poole until 1953 and was then transferred to Weymouth before going out of service with Dorset FB in 1968 and straight into preservation. Now,if only the old Turntable Ladder(1943 Beaver TSC/Merryweather TL with pump-GXA 72)was next to this old classic, that would have been the picture of the month.Great picture Morgan, thanks for sharing it with us-Pete.

Hi Bob Ken the owner doesn't take it out much its a smashing fir engine. My friend granddad use to drive this in service at Poole.
I first remember seeing JT9723 in Poole fire station in 1956. The line up was then a Bedford S/HCB WrT FPRxxx, a Dennis F12 P.E. EJT675 and JT9723. Up to the time it was sold by Dorset it had a grey bonnet. The appliance moved to Weymouth in 1962 to replace a Leyland FK6 P.E JT5199 which had gone to Bridport to Bridport the previous year.It ran at Weymouth for some years and I think as a reserve and then went into store. It was sold along with JT5199 and another Leyland APR888 in October 1970.All are preserved. I have a feeling that the TL went to Rentokil or a similar firm as I saw either it or GXA62 going along Piccadilly in London in 1973/4. One of them appeared in an episode of the itv comedy series Doctor in the House about that time. Geoff Pritchard 18 October 2009
