Australian and New Zealand fire services operated both British and American fire apparatus alongside each other for many years both before and after WWII.

They also built locally designed vehicles which incorporated design features from both countries, creating such vehicles as Mack pump escapes, which were not a common sight anywhere else!

Some of these are illustrated on this site and are quite unusual.

Now their services are dominated by Swedish and Japanese brands, primarily but not limited to Scania and Isuzu. Bodywork is still mainly locally designed and built.
