An odd shot!

Taken from roughly the operators standpoint shows the controls for the various movements, and the field of operations indicator, this is linked electronicaly to the plumbing device and controls its limitations of action it was a very clever system.
If elevating and extending at once from just above the gallows it will only extend in relation to a safe elevation angle so as to reduce the likelyhood of damage (note also the two way radio speaker/mic)

Jason, which TTL is this ?

I see "Magirus" in your photo, but I can't link it to an overall photo.

Great detail, and interesting operational info; of which, don't see enough. Keep it up.

Pat.....the other TL to have a similar control layout was the Metz....but that had a tubular ring round the base of the turret which was the throttle, its definatly a Magirus. The third type of TL was the Merryweather and the earlier versions has a rather 'untidy' array of handles and levers.

this is a picture of my Dennis f27 TTL ex Surrey this is the first fully hydraulic ladder produced by Magirus and was fitted with safety pawls 2 on each section and twin cables on all sections extension is by the same kind of system as forklifts use, a hydraulic ram laid horizontaly in the fulcrum frame and has a chain teathered at one end and loose at the other. it runs over a sprocket that rotates the cable drums as the ram extends it shortens the chain turning the drums and extending the ladder telescopicaly, the plumbing device works by mercury switches and via solenoids moves the ladder heel left or right giving 8 degrees of ladder head movement this is done by hydraulic motor at the heel.
the field of opperations indicator in the picture shows elevation and extension, this has circuit breakers conected to the outer metal field and if the pointer hits that (it moves in accordance with the ladder movement) all actions are stopped automaticaly re-set the trip (oil pressure) and you can use it again to depress the ladder to a safe position
