An all Dennis line up at Cleveland Fire Brigade's Coulby Newham Fire Station. This Station was opened as a new build in 1984, and is still currently in use.
From the left are WPY482Y, M919SVN (an ET) and J688VEF. only the ET is here now, the others have been replaced with a Scania and a Landrover.

I remember visiting the station shortly after opening to see the first Dennis ET sadly wrote off in an RTC, the ADO proudly showed everything was in place to eventually house 2 X Pumps an the ET accommodation and cutlery! Sadly never came to fruition and the original pump and ET transferred from Park Road South, Middlesbrough

Brett:- was this station a long way away from Park Road South?

Added by Rob Johnson on 12 August 2020.
Rob: the station at Coulby is just under 5 miles from Par Road South. At the time it was built the housing estates to the south of Middlesbrough were expanding rapidly, thus increasing the load on the local road network. The location of the station just south of the A174 Parkway provided swift access to other areas for the ET (and pump).

Thanks Mike: It seems the suburban sprawl in many British cities has meant that the older concept of having a large central fire station is quite often being replaced by the idea of distributing resources across a number of smaller stations. This is a pattern which is well established here in American suburbs, which are usually even more spread out....

The first due pump gets the job done more than 90% of the time, so it makes a lot of sense to spread them out. Apart from volunteer stations, even two pump stations are comparatively rare here.

You may also be interested to know that - in light of declining call volumes - London are looking at changing manning for the second pump at some two pump stations from 24 hour to day manning. It seems this will call for a lot of negotiation with the FBU, though!

A much better factual reply than I could have provided thanks Mike
