Plenty to say about this one! First up I hadn't realised that the VYBs were HSC "Anguses", of the six WrLs of this type Somerset must have had VYB73W & YYA831X are still around. This one ran between RYC470F a Bedford TJ (now preserved) and E432SYD a Dodge Saxon (also still around).
I do remember seeing this ones sister VYB73W around Wincanton, but I am sure it was different to this one, I did read elsewhere on the internet that 73 was rebodied by Saxon and when I was at school in Wincanton there was a rumour that 73 had been rolled over, weather that was true I don't know but as it still survives maybe I will encounter it again.
Hi I live in Wicanton, and own VYB 72W which was stationed in Wincanton from New 1980 - 1994. it is in good condition and used regular for personal use and events. I am a Fire Fighter in Wincanton. Any information on the other two would be useful, VYB 71W, VYB 73W. Thanks

VYB71-73W were first registered in April 1981 and most likely went on the run in about August/September the same year. This design of H.C.B Angus bodywork is known as the High Strength Cab (H.S.C) version so yes Mr Johnson it is a safety cab design.
71 was new to Somerton, 72 Wincanton and 73 Martock and they replaced Bedford TJs at these stations.
