City of Gloucester fire brigade Bedford emergency tender. Picture taken in the early 1970's. A bell, siren marchal beacon and no stripes, what more could you ask for?
Middlesbrough fire brigade had one of these (DDC999C), when it passed to Cleveland fire brigade in 1974, it received lots of lovely white areas to it's bland red livery. Wonderful! Lol!
The Fire Brigade handbook, vol 2 says Dennis M. A note against a similar appliance says the large window at the rear was a feature of these appliances.

Very smart looking appliance, lovely lines and all red. Proper fire appliance.
This adds to my observation that U.K. city fire brigades were much more likely to fit sirens. I bet the local county brigade didn't. Frightening the cattle, as Rob commented...
Steve:- When we sold the first Ford D series to Gloucestershire they already had air horns. I was invited on a shake down drive to try them, and an elderly couple in a small car ahead of us literally disappeared! I think they must have driven into a field to escape us...
I don't know if the air horns curdled the cows' milk too, but they were very loud.....You are right, though, that the older Gloucestershire Commers all had bells.
Ha Rob, I would like to have seen that... Much as I like air sirens, I do think the two tone air horns were much more piercing. I went to an open day at the then new Leeds Central fire station on Kirkstall Road and they were letting the kids operate them. It was absolutely deafening.
This bodywork is a great example of how to integrate the standard truck cowl, windscreen and front doors into a custom body with a crew cab. This must have been a less costly solution than the rather extensive re-work on units like those typically built by HCB-Angus and some others...
