Just when you think the Green Godess can't get any better, Graham gives us this beauty !

What a great looking Bedford, hope she is alive and well somewhere !

John, I don't have the reg no. I only took this one photo.

The Registration of this was PGW272. I have a purchased photo of this machine, so unfortunately I can't post it here.

I think it was PGW 272 - it came to my station Scunthorpe when our spare Water Tender - converted to a foam tender Bedford TK RBE 608G went off the run, the CFO promised us a 'new' FoT and this arrived ! it had a sign painted on the dash saying 'danger do not exceed 30mph' and was an utter pig to drive(because it was so slow) - it had a foam tank fitted in the transverse pump locker and so many extra dials and levers and valves that no one knew how to make it work properly ! the div admin officer even reversed her brigade car into it one day - it wrote the car off and bent a lever on the FoT !
having said all that I look at it know and think what a nice machine - full of character ! but I bet I have nightmares tonight - thank you Graham

Thanks lads, I have no record of it after 1965. Sounds like a dog Rick but filled with good intent as well as compound!

Added by John Stott on 23 June 2009.
Oh yes I forgot that, the clever fitters at Hull City Fire Brigade used a steel tank for the foam compound and in time it 'ate its way ' through it and left nice big thick black deposits on the appliance room floor !

Made me laugh that Rick! Can you imagine that on a modern station? Contain spillage, specialist firm come to remove it and ten forms to fill in! Oh for the old days and the smell of compound!

@ John - this was in service, based (bizarrely) at Central Station into the 1970s

Cardiff also re-purposed a Green Goddess as a foam tender, but it was traditional red. No idea if it had the same problems!

It replaced a reconfigured WWII NFS heavy unit pumper, and was probably an improvement...
