Tyne Tunnel Landrover E1 B611JRG
Rear view of Tyne Tunnel Landrover E1 (B611JRG) on the North Patch of the Tyne Tunnel c1994.
This view shows the rear end with the illuminated 'Follow Me'sign clearly displayed on the rear roof section. This lights up when the machine leads one of the many convoys through the Tunnel during the (frequent) Roadworks.
The machine is seen waiting for it's next escorting duties which at this time of the day (late afternoon) will probably be a fuel Tanker heading towards the Jarrow Oil Terminal. These Landrovers were very capable of a high turn of speed occasionaly. Many was the time I saw them on Blues and Twos escorting an Ambulance or Fire Tender at high speed through the Tunnel.
