Dennis F12 former Sunderland Fire brigade

BBR501 a Dennis F12 new to Sunderland Fire Brigade,is seen at the North East Aircraft Museum near Sunderland Tyne and Wear. It had been in use as an operational machine there. By the middle 80's however, it was semi derilict as seen here. Unfortunately it was scrapped a couple of years ago now.

Chris not being picky, but its an F7 denoted by round cab door handles and the extra bit in the cab between the doors

Whoop's! sorry, I thought it was an F12. Unfortunately it isn't anything now, as it was scrapped. I do believe the front end survives further details anyone?

Thanks for this picture Chris. Rick is correct when he says this was an F7 although one of the main differences which was the hard suction lockers cannot be seen here as they are missing.
I have read that they were removed in order to give more ground clearance for it's airfield work.

Yes thats correct Chris....they also fitted a foam tank on the back. I had the 'pleasure' of driving her road the airfield many years ago, the one full time fireman was on the same course as me at Stansted. The F7 was replaced by a GG.
The airfield was closed and the Nissan car factory was built on the site....the air museum was moved to buildings and land nearby

Chris,
If the front end you are referring to is the one Dennis Barker had in his garage then I'm sorry to tell you this was from the former Hebburn F12 LUP 463? which was at Beamish museum in a compound for some time, Dennis was given the vehicle but it was 'too far gone'to restore so he mounted the front end on his garage wall - very impressive it looked too!

Like Middlesborough, Sunderland ran their F7 as a pump, because of the long wheelbase. This one shared quarters with a stubby AEC Merryweather Marquis, which carried the escape.
