Wartime Bedford GLE980

This Wartime Bedford GLE980 has been 're-discovered' on Teesside recently. It was active on the Rally scene in the 80's. It is seen here with other Wartime machines at Teesside Airport in 1984.

Actually it is an Austin, which was a bit more common than the Bedford or Ford versions.

All had similar bodywork and carried an independently powered 700 GPM pump, delivering 3200 LPM at 7 AT. They carried a single extension ladder, suction and 70mm delivery hoses and branches, and not much else!

They were crewed by five to ten firefighters, most of which could find a seat under the rear canopy.

A longer wheelbase version with a higher payload was also produced with an 1150 GPM pump, fatter 7 inch suction hoses and extra lengths of delivery hose, but these were comparatively rare.
