AEC Regent/Merryweather Pump Escape This wonderfull beastie was a complete suprise to me when I first saw it back in 1997. It is a former Newcastle and Gateshead Joint Fire Brigade AEC Regent/Merryweather PE.I knew that this had gone to Winterton Hospital in Sedgefield (Co Durham), but I never thought that it had survived. This must be the only surviving early post war Newcastle machine left now, it could do with being restored fully. It would be the perfect Station mate for CU5705 wouldn't it?

I'd like to ask if you live anyhwhere near where this old classic is being stored-restored. My reason is, that since I put the photos of the Maudslay Merryweather from Edinburgh, there have been many comments about the 130 Merryweathers that were produced on Maudslay chassis yet appear to be AECs, such as the London Fire Brigade's Emergency Unit. I would hope someone might inspect such a unit and see if there is anywhere on it that is stamped Maudslay, or if the radiator badge has any identification.
Thanks,
Bob Graham
