Somerset FRS Volvo FL6 Saxxon
X891BYD Yeovil's Volvo FL6 .14-250 Saxon WrT seen in the Borough in Yeovil in May 2009. This pump was I believe new to Wiveliscombe as a WrL. It's the second pump of Yeovil fire station, the first out is WrL WJ52HTO which is another Volvo Saxon. Somerset Fire Brigade bought 20 of these Volvo Saxons. They were W261-7RYB new in early 2000, X891-5BYD later on in 2000 and lastly in late 2002 came WJ52HTG,K,L,N-P,T&U. All of these went to Devon & Somerset Fire & Rescue at merger.

If memory serves me correctly, Yeovil wholetime were issued with one of the MAN appliances when it was new however the crews did not like it and they asked to keep the Volvo. Hence why there still is a 2002 Volvo as the first away wholetime pump in Yeovil. As Somerset are only buying MAN now I think they will end up with noe eventually.

There is an MAN at Yeovil its WA07UGZ an MAN 18.285, I think its a WrT, it never seems to go out! Yeovil did keep a Merc N944BYD for a while and may still have it, that was because of narrow streets such as Crofton Park (where I used to live!) and Victoria Road, residents were concerned that the Volvos would take longer to get past the cars as they are wider than the Mercs so N944BYD stayed.
