Pat if its a retained crew hes jumped on straight from his job, I once got a ticking off from my subby for showing my pyjamas under my tunic! Ah happy days....
I hope he was properly dressed when they arrived, they were going to a Somerset HMI exercise! For those who don't know,HMI's were an annual inspection of every fire brigade, including at least one large exercise, something else consigned to history.
I only found Sherborne's station two weeks ago, thats despite living my whole life only a few miles from it! The Bedford looks good and it's an Escape to boot!
This was one of 8 similar Bedford S/HCB bought in two batches of 4 and 3 respectively in 1953 and 54 and a single one in late 1955. One of the first batch (FPR 321) was written off in 1957 at a stubble fire when allocated to Sherborne. Two of the second batch were later converted to carry escapes included that in the photo. They served the county well and the first (FPR 186) served as first away at Weymouth for 8 years. They were withdrawn in the mid 1970s.
Is the Driver in a white boiler-suit ?
Keep these photos coming.
