Snaker, is the fire brigade in Russia run by the Military or a separate body? Love the old fire stations, lots of character, probably not too flash for the fire personnel though. Are there women in the brigade? Be nice to see some pics of them on the job!
Fire in Russia owned by Ministry of Emergency Situations (its emblem you may see on the second door of cab). Some brigades are military, lots - owned by industrials. Typically, women are not firefighters. But there are exceptions. Usually women work on less dangerous jobs.
Snaker, thats amazing that after women being asked to do every kind of work in the Soviet days that there are not many women firefighters! Or is it a reflection of Russia today?
I am pretty sure the brigade in Moscow used to be military-based, but since the demise of the Soviet Union, it is now a civilian operation.

I think, as a firefighters, the women are no worse than men. But perhaps that sense of motherhood and the responsibility for children does not allow them to seriously risk their lives. I'm sure, this is true not only for Russia?
In Soviet times, as now in Russia, were both military and civilian fire brigades. Civilian firefighters also wear military-style uniforms.
Snaker, I was in St.Petersburg way back in 1994. Can't remember the name of the fire station which I have visited, but they had 3 Zil 131 pumpers. How many fire stations do they have nowadays?
