Mercedes 1124 Water Tender and ERF Water Foam Carrier from Norfolk Fire Service seen just after the stop message was sent at a late evening field fire in Norfolk, July 2006.
This scene looks so tranquil but not long before, it would have been a very different story. For a few weeks in 2006, dry conditions led to the busiest spell of field fires for years. We are very fortunate in Great Britain not to experience wild fires of the magnitude of those seen in America or Australia for example, but a field of standing corn or cut straw well alight can still pose a serious threat to life and property. After two wet summers, I wonder what the coming one has in store?
