STOP PRESS...............just found out that above MIU is now allocated to Kilmarnock and SF04 TYU is now at Bellshill, apparently Killie are better suited to a crew cabbed miu, sf04 has a normal cab which apparently will be better suited at Bellshill.
Thanks for the news also Tommy. I dont know if you knew that the 04 MIU originally was going to be for an ALP but Strathclyde got funding from the Scottish government to body it as an MIU.
Do you know anything about the MIUs being fitted with Heavy Rescue gear
Added by Steve Bonner on 19 May 2009.
The MIU's are being kitted out with Heavy Rescue equipment to supplement the HRV at Easterhouse. This would allow the MIU Crew to start rescue operations at a major transport incident before the arrival of the HRV. The equipment is carried in 4 Cages on the Offside of the appliance and is made up of the essential HRV gear only.
Kilmarnock & Clydebank have been kitted out with the USAR / HRV gear whilst Cumbernauld (Formerly Bellshill) is being kept as Mass Decontamination.
The MIU's also have a variety of equipment other than the Specified USAR and Mass Decon. Foam Pallets, Salvage Equipment, Forestry Equipment and now Heavy Rescue Gear can now be mobilised with Major Incident Units. I've also heard that Flood Support Equipment is going to be available shortly to these vehicles as well.
