Steam-driven fire pump from 1878

Photographed in the Museum of Science and Technology, Stockholm, on 10 April 2009.
Built by Nichols & Co, Burlington, Vermont, USA in 1878, this fire pump was stationed at Ljusne, Sweden, where there was a mill.
It could pump 18,000 litres per minute and produce a jet 50 metres high.

Intriguing to see a classic American steamer, such a long way from home.

And, for the old-timers; look at all the brass-work to keep polished !

Thanks for showing us this fine old pumper.

Regards, from Canada,

The largest capacity steam pumpers could handle around 1, 000 GPM or 4, 000 LPM. I think this is more likely 1, 800 LPM or 750 GPM, which is much more typical of what were in use back in 1878.
