Manchester airport Bedford hose layer,i believe that it could also re-supply foam and presumably had a pumping capability as it has a hose reel, pic taken early 1970's.
Great shot - could you just confirm the registration is YVU 139 please - I'm not totally sure of the last digit.

CFO Pyat 'invented' a device for slipping the 35ft ladder from the roof of the appliance, if I recall correctly one firefighter could do it. A handle was pulled and the ladder rolled back then counterbalanced until the heel of the ladder was on the floor at the rear of the vehicle and the ladder resting against the back. Very ingenious at the time.
Ian,the reg is YVU 109,sorry about the quality of the pic but i was new to 35mm cameras at the time and did not appreciate how much you could change the exposure settings.
Barrie... Just found the pictures. Daddy says you had to climb up the back, and stand on the coffins. While a man on the ground pulled the lever. The man on the back had to feed the ladder backwards. Putting it back was tough taking 3 blokes to stow it. Notably it was the only machine on the airport that had a 35ft ladder. All the rest were 30fts.
