Ross, is the International to right FBY123, the pride of the upcoming Sydney Royal Easter Show Fire Station!? Love the Merc 911's, pity workshops were having a "she'll-be-right" day when they mounted the all important traffic warning beacons at all angles to the cabin roofs,,
The 911 has got to be my favourite Mercedes-Benz chassis of all time. Don't care too much for the Atego, Actross and Axor. Nothing classic about the latter.
There are still a few in service with smaller and less busy German volunteer fire companies, and many more in various South American fire services, which bought them second hand from different European countries.
In addition to its roles as a pumper or water tender, the 4X4 911 made a very effective brush truck, and was bought by a lot of French, Spanish, Scandinavian and Portuguese fire departments in its day, at a time when fire services were not into buying foreign imports very often...
