Dennis 'N' Type 1920

This Dennis 'N' Type was supplied to High Wycombe Fire Brigade in 1920. It was originally fitted with the traditional Dennis cast spoked wheels like FA1075 the Burton on Trent 'N' Type. These were changed to pneumatics in the early 1930's then back to 'solids' on the rear a little time afterwards. It is fitted with the smaller (45 HP)White and Poppe engine.

Doug.
The pump is a Gywnne, and these were used on all Dennis's up to around 1923. Dennis then started using their own pump which in effect was an Italian Tamini pump built under license.

The capability of the pump was determined by the available input power. When coupled to a six cylinder Dennis it (the appliance) was rated as a 1000gpm. machine.

In this period there was a similar looking pump, the 'Rees Roto-Turbo'. These pumps were fitted to Leylands. Why don't you post a photograph of the pump that you have?

Best wishes,

Barry.
