According to the crew - the cages on the windows were put in specific for new Turntable ladders based on lessons learnt from previous TTLs: whereby the closeness to debris falling down when near fires did damage windscreens on previous trucks and were expensive to replace. They also have large canvas sheets stowed which are put on the sides to protect the bodywork during fires.
The crew say they are unconcerned about riots - as they have not faced one since 1969.
