The Ford 'D' series is SVK195G new in 1968 to Newcastle and Gateshead joint Fire Brigade. It is a High Expansion Foam Tender however, I didn't know this back in 1983, I thought it was just a bread van which is why I didn't take a proper picture of it.

You're extremely close, Chris - it was actually SVK 196G. I'll dig out a shot of it on the run.

Upon checking again the picture in Ron Henderson's excellent Book 'Firefighting in Tyne and Wear' I see that I made a typing error lol!

Although there is over a quarter of a century between the current date and this picture being taken, - other than faded paintwork and delaminated plywood in the locker bottoms and rear cab floor I would expect this appliance to have survived remarkably well (bodywork wise at least) due to it being all aluminium construction - including the framing - Alfred Miles Ltd was a subsiduary of the Hawker Siddeley Aviation Company and built their appliances to aircraft frame technology - mechanicals are a little bit of a grey area though although as it has'nt been anywhere since coming out of service it should be as it was.
