Hi Ian, this pic was taken in 1995 when I first joined the Fire Brigade Society. It was in fact my first visit with them (Oct 95). Unfortunately I didn't get this machine with it's original bodywork as I was into Fire Engines too late (as always). I can't remember seeing this in it's original configuration let alone photographing it lol!. As I'm writing this, I'm checking my collection of postcards issued by the brigade in the 70/80's period. I'm looking at postcard no21, which shows Billingham's RHN896X with it's original bodystyle without the built up sides. I wonder if the machine in the picture here (D892DDC) had built up sides from new in 1987, and if the X reg one had it's sides modified to match D896DDC at some stage? Does anyone know when the bodywork on these two was modified? or if both had the low side bodies from new? I'm not quite sure which was which.
