Added by Jake Caswell on 27 February 2009.

Hi Peter, what sort of extinguishing media does it have: CAFS or Water or both ?

Added by Bryan Sweeney on 28 February 2009.

Hi guys, Right Sudbury is a Retained station right on the Suffolk/Essex border, Suffolk bought 1 in 2001, 3 in 2003 and now 8 in 2008 (<
And finally Bryan, I do believe they have both CAFS and water. Very much a modern swiss army knife.

Had a snout round it a couple of days ago, and its a brilliant bit of kit!!!

Why did U.K. change their sirens from two-tone horn to the "American" siren?

Added by Patrick on 28 February 2009.

Suffolk have 3 PRL's brought in 1995 and four brought in 2001 and 4 in 2003 and 8 just coming on the run now, 3 of which are ERT's and 5 PRT's.

Impressive kit, and nice to see retained crews getting a fair deal on equipment for once. Patrick, the change came because of traffic conditions, more people playing music in their cars made the two tones inaffective. Also the "yelp" is supposed to bounce off buildings and travel longer distances. Myself I am a bell man, but then I am old!

I agree its one of the nicer looking new style volvo's I've seen with the white striping around the grill which is different.

Added by Peter Bromley on 10 March 2009.

Added by Richard Whiting on 11 March 2009.

Richard do you know where KP58 NSN is? Its an ERT but i don't know where the hell it is. Princes Street are running NCC, Bury NBE and Normanshurst NBN but i haven't a clue where NSN is??

Is it a spare do you know?

Added by Peter Bromley on 19 June 2009.

Hi Peter, Normanhurst are running KP58NCN which was previously NSN but it was a mistake by Volvo who put the plates on it, KP58NSN is no longer a fire engine.

A quick comment about electronic sirens:

When Uttoxeter (retained Staffordshire station) acquired their first electronic yelp/wail siren on a Dennis RS in the late '80s, it had to be disconnected because it kept scaring cattle! For years they made do with two-tone air.

I think the bovine neighbours got used to them in the end though, because today, Uttoxeter use electronic on their Scania.
