Thanks Simon, just reminded me how bad they were, I mentioned elsewhere that we used two on the 77 strike as BA machines, South Yorks traffic police were appalled at the body roll and were convinced we would write one off! However, we didn't as once you had scared yourself silly once, you never took it to the limit again!
I take the point Pav, in the Tacr though it was impossible, the rear crew were so squashed in even kitting up was an effort. The front didn't have much more room and anybody over 5 foot 8 would struggle. Add to that map reading and radio operating etc a seatbelt was the last thing on your mind. If the rescue unit didn't reach the burning aircraft within 3 minutes the aircrew were dead.
