The Devon Fire and Rescue service got this Ford Ranger Rapid Rescue Unit in 2005. The unit is stationed at Exmouth Fire Station. The bodywork is from JDC.

Based on my experience visiting Brunei - as an oil rich nation they are not short on budget; and have a tendency to buy at least one unit of the latest appliance.

What are the main roles of this vehicle? And is it unique to Exmouth?
The main role of the Rescue Unit is to deal with road traffic accidents. There are several Rescue Units located at stations throughout Devon and Somerset, although the newer ones appear to be based on full-sized fire appliances. The Ford Ranger shown is no longer in service and has been replaced at Exmouth by an 'S' registered Renault panel van. Perhaps somebody crashed the Ford Ranger and wrote it off?
