The only things which dont match up as far i can see is the design of the indicators on the front panel were used on this model upto about 1969/70, and the X reg suffix is from august 1981 to july 1982..so if it, s the original lights that would make it a earlier model, and the x reg would put it as being registered several years after production ended....?so something is not quite right...but im no expert......
I'm sure this machine's history appeared in one of the Preston Park rally programmes somewhere. I'll have a look and see if I've still got my collection somewhere.
If you look at publicity photos of AEC in the 70's you will notice differences in apperance to this vehicle, Leyland even ommited the AEC triangle, could this have been recabbed, or a registered machine I wonder, if not it must indeed be a very rare vehicle. Andrew.
I thought the Leyland Ergonomic Cab unit was phased out around 1976, Didn't the T45 range replace it? It was curious to me at the time because of it's 'X' reg, I nearly didn't photograph it because I thought it was so new!!
hi chris, when you saw this at billingham it was at the DAF dealer, one of the mechanics bought it to preserve, last i heard he moved to IRELAND and had taken it with him, so it still might be about some were. ian the taxi driver.
Hi Ian, yeah that's about right. I remember it was the DAF dealer not far from the crisp factory. If you notice, it's history appears on the wind screen, so perhaps it's full history might be in the Preston Park Rally archives. I'm thinking of setting up a group to try and save DAJ700T depending on the response. Would you be interested?
This appliance was owned by a person who use to work for a local Renault truck dealership in the north east I remember only seeing it the once at Preston Hall If my mind serves me right I think he moved abroad. Don't know what happened to the appliance after that.

Ron Henderson informed me that this machine was new to the ICI Plant at Stevenston in Scotland, (near Glasgow I believe) and wasn't registered from new as it never left the plant. It dates from the early 70's and was given this registration upon it's allocation to Teesside because there was a likelyhood of it having to travel on public roads.(probably if it had to help the Cleveland brigade)
Hi I use to drive this vehicle at ICI North Tees works a long time a go.

Hi Jim do you remember the big Foden foam tanker that was at north tees site? And do you have any pics from your days there ? Thanks Ian mc
sorry I don't have photos of the foden foam tanker .I do know it was sold for the stainless tank. it paid for an old lorry to be restored. lorry was part of the cycle milk race years ago.

I can confirm it was at ICI North Tees, I have a picture of it at the big 20 pump Aromatics Number Two fire in March 1984 which I also attended. It was a combined foam and dry powder unit but I believe it also had a 1000 gpm pump.
Hi Ian. mc sorry for the late reply; unfortunately I do not have the copyright for the photograph at ICI. It was a photo taken by the Cleveland brigade photographer and given to me by a Cleveland ADO when I left the brigade in 1986. The fire was 30 years ago now so not sure if they would be bothered with the copyright!
Andrew.
