Suffolk Fire and Rescue - Long Melford

This is a snow lashed Long Melford 01 (J165 LDX)

Seen here in the yard of there fire station, whilst the bay is being painted!

It is likely that 2009 will be the last year of operational service for most of Suffolk's ageing 'J' reg appliances, it will certainly be the end of an era when they go!!

The appliance is still in Fantastic condition as it has been well looked after by the crew at Long Melford!!

Gee, what is all that "white stuff" ?!

Actually, I am sitting indoors tonight, admiring all the snow-scenes in Britain, courtesy of The Web.

Outside, is the umpteenth snow-storm of the winter, and I have "wimped out", on Fire Dept Training Night. It is an icey, snowy 13 km ( 8 miles) away, on country roads; and I don't want to be yet another weather-related MVA (RTA, oops, sorry, that's RTC)

Anyhow, that is a great winter photo - bet that you wound up with a few white blobs in front of the lens, in some of your "takes".

Happy sledding from The Great White North [Canada]

Quite a few older UK Volvos have ended up in south America, as well as eastern Europe. They are converted to LHD, but the old British livery and lettering remain untouched. The standard UK "instantaneous" pattern pump outlets remain, with a short length of 70 mm hose fitted at the end with a Storz coupling for each outlet.

Mixed up with local (Ford, VW, Scania or Mercedes) and both second hand European and US fire trucks, there are several quite interesting appliance fleets in some south American departments.

My favorite is a Young Crusader ex Port Washington FD Flower Hill Hose Company, which is still operational in Chile, after more than forty years answering calls. Unfortunately, I have no pictures of it.
