what sort of equipment would this appliance carry?. am thinking of our own 'high rise kit' which is basically rolled hose in a large holdall with a branch in beside it.
The High Rise Units are basically a rescue unit and are manned by personnel in the firehouse who are special trained in high rise rescue, building collapse, rope rescue, search and rescue, etc.Like many apparatus(appliances)on the FDNY fleet of what we would call-specials, they are only manned when required to special types of incidents by crews on station(firehouse)who man the Eng/Ladder apparatus. The idea of the HRU's is not as a firefighting unit, its for high rise rescue. HRU'S carry breathing apparatus for the crew, lines(ropes)for rescue, etc, etc.
