This pump was based at Hastings rd station along with another, don't know what happen to its sister appliance. Would love to find out, brings back a lot as I remember them as a kid.
When I first arrived at Central Station, I was told that this appliance started off at Central, but the rear wings of CRY999J were too wide to allow the appliance into Welford Road prison. Central was then allocated XRY999J which had narrower mudguards. XRY999J used to run alongside a petrol engined Dennis. This appliance was then based at Eastern Station (Hastings Road). I believe the sister appliance was UBC999H. Western Station (Aikeman Avenue) had an AEC Pump Escape KBC416E, I think the sister appliance to the PE was an AEC Wrtl SBC999J.
Of course, this is just a snapshot in time, XRY999J had replaced a Dennis (Petrol) and Dodge appliances were arriving later. Also, as the AECs were replaced, they were demoted to ‘Spare’ appliances.
I used to drive XRY999J regularly, it was one of my favourites, but heavy on the clutch.
CRY999K Brings back a lot of childhood memory's when it was based at Hastings road station along side UBC999H, We used to hang round the station when kids watching drills and the odd call out, All these old fire engines should be kept in storage not scrapped its history such a shame that Leicester does not have anywhere to see its old Ex fire engines or restore them to their glory so sad other city's can.

There used to be a photo of both fire engines which are both AEC's and both based at Hastings rd. The photo use to hang on the office wall I would love a copy of it,
