It's very disturbing to see part of local fire service history ending this way. Registered 5th October 1982, this Dodge G12/Carmichael was allocated to Kilo 16 Dolgellau in Gwynedd and was the first new Gwynedd WrL to be assigned the Kilo one-six-one call sign. She replaced the former Victor-three Llandudno Bedford TK/HCB-Angus WrL KCC512J, which was the first diesel engined Bedford TK appliance to enter service in the UK. The name on the door "T.M.Roberts" B.E.M was a former Dolgellau CFO. Transferred to Kilo 19 Tywyn in 1986 when Dolgellau recieved another Dodge G12/Carmichael WrL D886UCC. Transferred to NWFS in 1996 and by 1998 the stripes had been added. Sister appliance GCC335Y was allocated to Delta 09 Caernarfon and replaced former Alpha-one Bangor Dodge G8685/Carmichael PL AEY533W which was reallocated to Kilo-18 Aberdyfi. GCC335Y had "F.W.Hitchinson" on the doors which was Frank Hitchinson, the last CFO of Caernarfonshire.
FW Hitchinson was my grandfather, I was 10 when this fire engine was named after him. They named it when he got his OBE for setting up the North Wales service, now fire and rescue. We were taken around Caernarfon in this fire engine as kids, it was brilliant! Do you have any photos of the doors ?
