NFS Leyland/Merryweather TL GXA 71
Reference the mention of the NFS Leyland/Merryweather TLs, here's one of what was in fact the TSC18 model. Seen here with Wakefield, this shot of GXA 71 is one which I took about 1970.
It was probably the only one of its type which got as far as having a blue beacon installed.
When first issued to the NFS, it was stationed far south of there at Portsmouth, coming north to Wakefield on the post-war return of control of brigades to the local authorities.

Hello Ian, thanks for helping some of us trying to cover the war-time period and the appliances used.The interest in that very dark period of time and the fire
equipment used by the NFS still has many people interested.

Scarborough had one of these, too. I believe it was a diesel. If so, these must habe been some of the first diesel-engine fire appliances in the UK.

Dundee Fire Brigade bought one of those second hand from Edinburgh Fire Brigade in the early 1950's used at the old Bell Street Central station, then replaced by a 1961 AEC Mercury Merryweather TL.
