There was some interest in the Hastings' Leylands which were posted a while ago, so I thought I'd put this photo up.
It's interesting because where the Hastings limousine pump escape had no doors this one that spent its life in Dewsbury is a closed four door version. Over the years I think I ran into this style in a couple of dozen places. The Leyland catalog of 1936 introduced this art deco version, and it seems to have stayed in production until 1939 when it was replaced by a fully enclosed four door body that a raised roof over the crew's area then gracefully swept back to the machine's rear. This pump is the smaller, 500 gallon machine and carried a little over 100 gallons of water; It was delivered in 1939, and the Leyland with 100 foot Merryweather ladder, with brass fittings was supposedly delivered in 1936.

Another classic photograph Bob.You really are starting to show your age if you
actually managed to get pictures of these appliances when on there stations way
back maybe in the late 1950's, early to late 1960's.
I love these old appliances but I'm not that old so can't remember them bombing
down the road to a shout(alarm).Only photo's I have are of those in presevation.
And lets be honest, its really quite amazing how many are still about today.Pete.

Rick thanks for the update on the limousine pump; it's a turnaround this time being made into a truck after the fire service instead of being converted to a limousine pumper.
And Pete, yes I photographed all the fire equipment in the latter half of the 1960s and into the 70s, and intending to publish a book, but my teaching career didn't allow this to happen----msybe this next yerar. I do have a couple of good pics of an Leyland GLW taken on station if you think it would be of interest on this site.

Bob, let history come fourth. The comments I've received on my old pictures, and
other people who have sent pictures in to the site covering this period and
before show quite clearly the interest is still there. Its history, and I'm very
sure many people enjoy the older appliances as well as being bombarded by so
many pictures of the appliances in use today.Keep the classics coming please.

Kingston upon Hull's leyland TLM/Merryweather 100' TL beside her.

Andrew,

If it is GLW 427 (one of Hulls TL's) I wonder what date the picture was taken and for what reason Dewsbury and Hull appliances were together ? - the station tower looks relativly modern so would possibly date the picture as late sixties/early seventies. The TL chassis is a TD7 (half cab) though, and not a TLM (Turntable Ladder Metz)
