The full title for these vehicles is - Enhanced Command Support Vehicle.

Are these vehicles now replacing the incident command unit paul? also, do you know what bhp the latest Volvo rp's are that North Yorks have got as a driver said the 57 plate was more sluggish than the older 53 plate....

Hi John, I think the big white control unit with North Yorks will go and they will use one of these unit's when on the run. I will let you know later. This new unit will be crewed by staff from Tadcaster and Selby. Not sure about the BHP of the pumps but have a word and find out.

Paul, I think you're misconstrring the purpose of the ECSVs. The plan is not that they become a brigade command vehicle, but that they act as a command point for incidents involving large numbers of New Dimension vehicles. The thing is that whilst the nine brigades to which they are being allocated will be encouraged to use them, this is a "double edged statement" in that - as I say - they are not to be used as everyday control units.

Hi Ian, I know why the ECSVs were purchased but I have been reliably informed that North Yorks intend to get rid of their existing control unit and use the ECSv based in the County, so we will have to wait and see.

Hi Paul, As you say, we'll just have to wait and see, but if (repeat, if) North Yorkshire have not physically seen and clambered all over an ECSV, I suspect they could be in for a bit of a surprise.

Thanks Paul for that, and yes, i agree with both you and Ian, i heard a rumour that the white command unit was going, so i wonder what fun they will have when these come into service..... maybe i'm thick, but thought these were to be used with the big white one, but knowing the state of most brigades now, who knows....

These nine vehicles will be placed strategically around the country to respond to major incidents as part of the New Dimensions Initiative. They will be placed with fire services at Hampshire, Kent, Devon & Somerset, Gloucestershire, Suffolk, Nottinghamshire, Hereford & Worcester, North Yorkshire and Cumbria.

I was at Huntington fire station, York where these photos were taken on 16/11/08 and the staff for North Yorkshire have finished the training on them and three of the five that were there have gone. Apparently they didn't have one of them that work fully out of the five they trained on (no surprise there then) that will match well with the regional controls then ! (not)
