Malaysian Atego Fire Trucks

This is the latest Mercedes Atego Fire Truck, picture taken on 11th September 2008, at the Putrajaya HQ in Malaysia. Lights & Siren are from Haztec, a UK based company. Other than that all equipment are much better than in the Scania, but the officer claims that this truck isn't as powerful as the Scania truck even though fitted with rugged Allison transmission.

It's very strange that the Merc engine always seems to need a good bootfull of revs to get them to shift, i guess it must be the high bhp output from a small litre engine, hence the lack of torque compared to the 9 litre Scania engine.

I was always led to beleave that a higher litre engine had better torque and pulling power, thus less stress overall on the engine, just out of interest, what litre engines are these Merc appliances?
