is this what the new London Mercedes tls will look like ?

Possible chance LFB will chose the elegant looking Mercedes Econic chassis for their aerial vehicles like the ALP&TL.

Very similar, maybe without the in-fill farings. Due August 2007.

Mike, what exactly are in-fill farings?

evening Yelp - it's the panel between the cab and the main body. It is hinged and allows access to the exhaust extractor hose and fly ladder. Have a look at the difference between this appliance and the ones I've posted of London's new ones... Regards, Mike

Cheers, Mike. Now I see. Great-looking machine the LFB TL, by the way. It's good to see new TLs arriving in fleets as so few brigades now run them. I believe there are only about a dozen operational TLs left in England.

Quick quiz: can anyone name them? (And I don't mean Terry, Tommy etc.)

Added by Yelp Bullhorn on 17 December 2007.
We chose them because we firmly believed and proved they have distinct advantages over ALPs, so, let's see...
London,
Kent,
Devon,
Avon,
Cambridgeshire,
Cumbria,
Lothian & Borders,
Any more?
Mike

Cumbria have recently replaced their TLs with ALPs. Northants run a TL from Kettering. Hants still run a TL from Southsea, Portsmouth, though this will soon be replaced with - you guessed it - an ALP. Bucks run that Quint monstrosity from a Milton Keynes station. And finally, Tyne & Wear still have a TL at a station in north Newcastle - Walker, I think.

Mike,
We still have one TL left in Tyne & Wear, though the other two aerials are ALPs.

Add to my last, Humberside & Isle of Wight both still havde TLs, and I'm pretty sure Staffordshire still have an operational one too.

The Northern Ireland FRS have TLs a HP & an ALP on the run. However 2 Vema ALPs will be soon going on the run 1 for Knock in Belfast to replace the Bronto 28 metre ALP is already with the brigade & crews are still doing training with it. The other for Northland in Londonderry to replace the Iveco Magirus TL is still on order & is due with the brigade in the new year

Ian, the MAN/Metz TL of Staffs F&RS at Burton-on-Trent retired due to the arrival of a Scania P94D-300/Bronto F32RL ALP. Staffs aerials now consist of three Scania ALPs at Stafford, Longton(Stoke)and Burton.

Yes, you're right of course the Staffordshire one will have been stood down. Sorry, that was my error, and my only excuse is old age !
