1954 Leyland Beaver/Magirus 100' Turntable Ladder

This 1954 Leyland Beaver/Magirus 100' Turntable Ladder(reg NWR 249)was delivered new to the Ex-West Riding Fire Brigade, later the West Yorkshire Fire Brigade and gave I understand some twenty years service. This photograph was taken during the early 1990's when the appliance was in presevation and I must say looking great, but I wonder if todays appliances will be around in as many years as these classic old timers and will be appearing at the rallies and shows throughout the country?,I think not, because with the changing of the times, sadly, the days of the classic fire engine has forever now gone, not forgotten though because of the presevationists who keep these classic old timers in presevation and hopefully keep them running for a few more years to come.

Nice to see some more classsic vehicle postings. This one really woke me up after falling into a deep sleep with the recent Volvos...

Great to see this TL Pete, I have a very poor photo of this appliance at York historical vehicle rally in the 1990's. I was told that after West Yorkshire sold it, they then had to hire it back again for some time due to problems with its replacement. The fee charged was greater than the price paid when purchased, not a bad deal.

After all these years, its good to know this lovely
old beast is still around, even though she may be old
and can't now get around. At least she's being cared
for in a transport museum.God bless her.

I looked at this classic TL in 1973 with a view to buying it at a West Riding fire station.I remember this appliance in very good condition and having a diesel engine which was unusual for those days as they were to slow getting away from cold.
