Atlanta FD Squad 5

First of it's kind for the AFD in Atlanta, Georgia USA. IIRC, not long after this was taken, Sta. 5 was partially torn down and the Squad started running out of Sta. 4 as it does today. Poss. a Spartan Chassis witha Salsbury body.

This is a 1985 Pirsch custom (TCM cab) with a body by Samaritan (a division of National Ambulance Builders). It ran out of Station 5 until it was closed (about 1987), then transferred to Station 1 until the early 1990's. Company 4 was disbanded around that time and Station 6 turned into a museum. Engine 6 and Squad 5 were then relocated to Station 4. This rig was replaced as the frontline rig in 1992, but served as the second piece for several more years and then as reserve. It was retired and disposed of in 2006.

Samaritan was not a division of National. Samaritan was a custom truck builder for several manufacturers. They built custom modular ambulance/fire/rescue bodies. National was not in the "custom" market. Samaritan out bid and out built Salsbury on this truck. I remember the day this truck was completed. It was a helluva rig.
