Harvey, first thanks for filling in the registration of the old rescue tender from Brighton, I could'nt see it clearly from my old photo.Secondly, I said above
the E.S.F.B.had three rescue tenders and no mension of only 2.Finally for your interest, the three vehicles when going as Operational Support Units went to the
day-crewed stations at Battle, Bexhill and Uckfield......Pete Matten

The one at Brighton was G117 TAP.

the reason why East Sussex introduced these machines is that a senior officer moved from Staffordshire, where they had them before.

Comment to Peter Williams: I thought it was the other way round! The East Sussex senior officer was Peter Reid, and, as I have always believed, he became CFO of Staffordshire AFTER his stint with East Sussex. And therefore, his fondness of this type of vehicle is the reason Staffordshire purchased three of them! Staffs also bought a M.A.N. 16-240/Metz/Angloco TL identical to the TL(s) operated by East Sussex. I could of course be wrong!

thank you for the correction. I knew there was a connection as nobody else had Jeep J20's in that configuration - see picture #5503

Hi, east sussex bought 3 of these in 1990. They were first stationed at Brighton, Eastbourne and Hastings.Uckfield and Battle had Jeeps. When a certain chief arrived he then started to up grade pumps to Extended rescue pump status. This only happend to a hand full of atns at first. He didnt like the fact the 3 RVs were jump crewed with the TLs so the were then dis astablised. As all the first away pumps had a rescue capability 2 of the 3 GMC found a new role as OSU at Battle and Uckfield at the same time a Heavy rescue unit became operational at Lewes. This all happened over 3/4 year from 1992 to 1996, hope this helps.

What actually happens to a Rescue Tender when it is transformed into an Operational Support Unit?
