Reydarfjardar Bedford TS

When I was driving through a small village in the Northeast part of Iceland I saw in a fraction something red. I turned my car and found this beauty. It was standing all alone on a junkyard. It is a Britisch built Bedford. In Iceland there are still Fire brigades where these kind of Bedfords are on duty. But modern days ask for modern cars, so in the next years more of the Bedford are going to end like this one. Sad but true.

When the Auxiliary Fire Service was disbanded in the April of 1968, the company
of Vass based in Ampthill in Bedfordshire purchased large numbers from the British Home Office these were Bedford SLHZ and also RLHZ emergency pumps or
Green Goddess appliances to which they have become known and also their associated support vehicles. Many were exported to the Eastern Block and other
Countries around the world. One of Vass's trademarks were the colour schemes where
the appliances would be repainted Red and white (white roofs to reflect the sun in hotter climates)from the original Bronze Dark Green, the appliance above has
all the trade marks as being supplied by Vass in the late sixties or early seventies to Iceland what a lovely old pump it needs someone to restore this machine as when the weather gets in the rear bodywork it finishes them off, it even has the Old Style Bell which is very rare. Iceland did have large numbers of RLHZ appliances in service as they were ideal for the terrain as they incorporated a four wheel drive facility.
